A Reaching the Future Mindset - Acts 11:23; Philippians 3:12-16

Commit to the proper goal:  "that for which I was laid hold of by Christ Jesus"

GOAL: oneness with Christ through salvation, discipleship, until I consistently lead others into oneness with Christ through salvation

the proper goal:

shows the value of our salvation

is required by God's standards for us

insures stewardship of our lives

mindset for pursuing the proper goal:

setting aside the past

focus on God's plans ahead of us

obedience to His development/discipline/pruning

committed, disciplined action moving forward through our behaviors and choices

Did Jesus Really Give His Life?

Did Jesus really give His life?

It is the claim of scripture: Jesus gave His life as an act of love.

 John 10:14-18

I John 4:9-10.

Jesus' death was a marvelous sacrifice.

Allowed Himself to be taken

John 18:6

Motivation was forgiveness

Luke 23:34

Awareness to fulfill scripture

John 19:28

Pronounced completion of His work

John 19:30

Pronounced His death as voluntary

Luke 23:45-46

Show of strength shows death voluntary

Matthew 27:50

Jesus' sacrifice   redeems us eternally

"Today you will be with me in paradise".

This sacrifice must be honored

By believers – in living and sharing.

By seekers – in surrendering your life

A Family and Their Relationships

A Family and Their Relationships    Ephesians 6:1-4

Two parameters: LOVE & LIMITS

Rules without relationships lead to rebellion.

AFFIRMATION

When we affirm the feelings of our young people, we give them a sense of authenticity.

ACCEPTANCE

When we accept young people for who they are, we give them a sense of security.

APPRECIATION

When we express appreciation to young people we give them a sense of significance.

AFFECTION

When we show affection, we give them a sense of lovability.

AVAILABILITY

When we make ourselves available we give our kids a sense of importance.

Family of Faith

Family of Faith: easy as one, two, three

ONE THING THE CHURCH IS NOT

The church is not a building.

The God who made the world and everything in it is the Lord of heaven and earth and does not live in temples built by hands. Acts 17:24, NIV

TWO THINGS THE CHURCH IS

The church is people who believe

We who believe are carefully joined together with Christ as parts of a beautiful, constantly growing temple for God. Ephesians 2:21, TLB

The church is a living building

Don’t you realize that all of you together are the house of God, and that the Spirit of God lives among you in his house? I Corinthians 3:16, TLB

THREE THINGS THE CHURCH DOES

The church spreads the gospel.

Preach the Word; be prepared in season and out of season; correct, rebuke and encourage—with great patience and careful instruction. II Timothy 4:2, NIV

The church fulfills its God-given responsibilities

Why is it that he gives us these special abilities to do certain things best? It is that God’s people will be equipped to do better work for him, building up the Church, the body of Christ, to a position of strength and maturity.  Ephesians 4:12, TLB

THREE THINGS THE CHURCH DOES

The church provides a place of refuge

How happy are those who can live in your Temple, singing your praises. Psalm 84:4, TLB

And let us consider how we may spur one another on toward love and good deeds. Let us not give up meeting together…but let us encourage one another.  Hebrews 10:24-25, NIV
